On the festival’s stage the sounds of steel drum music

The 25th Klaipeda Castle Jazz festival taking place on June 6th-8th will surprise its audience with Gregory Boyd’s non-traditional steel drum and deep vocal created sound which he will be performing together with the group that brings together the best musicians from Odessa: “Alexei Petuchov Trio”.

 “Steel drums are a rare instrument that have a unique sound hailing from the Trinidad islands which have been expertly mastered by the international renowned musician, the ingenious Gregory Boyd. With his powerful voice and his authentic instrument he combines electro, rock, funk and jazz styles thus creating a fresh and exciting sound that you will want to keep on listening to. It is my delight to announce that together with him at the ship terminal stage, the “Alexey Petuchov Trio” will be performing as well who by various music critics have been hailed as some of the best musicians from Odessa” – said the organizer of the Klaipeda Jazz Festival Inga Grubliauskienė.

The original steel drum playing musician Gregory Boyd was born in the USA where he grew up together with blues, gospel and soul music. During his career he has worked with famous US musicians such as Charles Neville, Delmar Brown, Paul Jackson, Jon Cleary, Lillian Boutte, Daryl Johnson, Jon Cleary, Anders Osborne, Peter Bastian, Kim Menzer, Emil De Wail, Jesper Bodilsen, Uffe Steen, Ben Besiakov, USO and many more, having earned international recognition. Having married a Danish singer, Gregory Boyd at the moment lives in Denmark and together with his wife works on several successful jazz and gospel projects.

Jazz pianist, arranger, composer and producer Alexery Petuchov can be called one of the ten best musicians from Ukraine. The first place winner of the international 2013 “Master Jam Fest” Alexey first was introduced to jazz music at musical school after which he continued his studies as a jazz pianist at the Odessa musical college and finally pursuing classical piano at the Odessa music academy. All of this has led to the piano virtuoso not only being a creator of various musical projects but the teacher of piano and jazz improvisation at the Odessa art and culture college, as well as the leader of the Odessa college Big Band. The members of the Alexey Petuchov created trio are drummer and composer Igor Hnydyn, and contrabassist Maxim Kondratjev who with his musical abilities is on par with the trio’s founder. Both members have been participants of many concerts, jazz festivals, and various international projects as well as having played in other and their own personal musical projects. The critically lauded Ukrainian musicians are ready to surprise and enchant every festival audience member with their professionalism and unique improvisations.
